At the moment there is a strong trend in the US towards using mediator lawyers. These are lawyers who have trained as mediators and can advise their clients in their capacity as mediator, lawyer or both.
The idea of the mediator lawyer is under discussion in this country but as yet its practical application is at the embryonic stage. However, there is a strong trend among family lawyers in England and Wales to work towards a conciliatory approach which encourages the parties to discuss between them the problems and the arrangements to be made on separation and divorce.
This leads to a calmer and friendlier atmosphere between the parties and decreases the acrimony which has been the hallmark of so many broken marriages in the past.
